Percussion Class

This course is specifically designed for percussion students in Marching Band, providing them with focused instruction and rehearsal time.

Percussion Class (Percussion 1)

Here at Quartz Hill, we offer a percussion class solely for our percussion students to learn and hone their musical skill with there peers! If you are interested, here are some information that you need to know:

  • No audition is required for this class. Percussion students must enroll in the percussion class if they are part of the 7th-period Marching Band as percussionists. However, those who do not plan to participate in Marching Band are not required to take this class.

  • Percussion students are strongly encouraged to take a wind ensemble class to supplement the skills learned in this course. During class, students will have dedicated time to rehearse for the fall marching band show while also focusing on percussion techniques.

  • They will receive individualized instruction from our percussion director, Tre Balfour. Topics covered include percussion warm-ups, cadences, percussion ensemble performances, learning new instruments, and more!

Quartz Hill Percussion Ensemble

Percussion Ensemble offers students a well-rounded approach to learning percussion instruments in order to develop general musicianship. Students further their percussion technique and skills, playing a variety of percussion instruments including mallets, pitched and non-pitched percussion, and auxiliary instruments. During year, the class focuses on the marching band field show in the fall and their winter drumline show in the spring, with percussion ensemble being directed every other day, preparing them for their concerts with Concert Band and Symphonic Band.

The Quartz Hill Percussion Alliance is our Quartz Hill competitive indoor percussion ensemble that performs a choreographed show combining marching percussion, concert percussion, and visual effects.

Unlike a traditional marching band, winterlines perform indoors, usually in a gymnasium, on a tarp-covered floor with a unique theme, music, and visual storytelling. The QHPA rehearse and compete right after the marching season ends in December and ends in April.

Our ensemble trains, performs, and competes against schools across the Antelope Valley and Southern California. We welcome dedicated students who are passionate about music, teamwork, and excellence.
