Color Guard is a great way to meet new friends, perform, and earn P.E credits. This sport creates lasting memories with teammates, coaches, and band members. We are able to perform in front of large crowds all while building a stronger confidence in ourselves and each other.

Color Guard

What is Color Guard?

Color Guard is a year-long performance group. Students develop technical ability and skills using flags, sabers, and rifles, as well as dance and other interpretive movement. During the fall season, the Color Guard performs with the Royal Marching Regiment. During the spring season, the Winter Guard learns their own show and performs at indoor competitions. No experience is required to join the Color Guard. If you're looking for a fun activity and want to meet some new people, come check it out!

Drop your PE class Freshman & Sophomores!

Color guard counts for both PE and Visual and Performing Arts Credit!

  • Show Corps VPA/Show Corps PE

This class is an elective during the school day. All members of the team are required to be in the class. Our band director oversees the class, but our captains will run the class like a practice. This is an amazing opportunity to have. We get an extra five hours of practice during the school day because of the class. Not all schools in our district offer the class. If you are a freshman or sophomore, you should enroll in Show Corps PE to get your PE credit. If you are a junior or senior, you should enroll in Show Corps VPA to get your visual and performing arts credit. If you cannot enroll in this course, please speak to Mr. Hernandez.

  • Marching Band

This class is a 7th period class, meaning it is after school. Our after school practices will count for attendance through the 7th period class. Students also get PE credit for being in this class as well! Colorguard members will get their PE credits completed faster because they are in two courses that count as PE!

Winter Guard

What is it?

Winter guard is a competitive extension of the color guard seen in marching band, but it stands alone as its own season with themed shows, elaborate costumes, and great storytelling!

Winter Guard involves performances inside gymnasiums, with events typically held on Saturdays. Unlike the fall season, the color guard performs independently without the marching band, using recorded soundtracks as the musical foundation. This group performs more advanced techniques not done during the fall season.

How do I Join? Are there Auditions?

There are no formal auditions for Winter Guard. Being a participant in the fall season is your audition into our Winter Guard! Throughout the fall season, attitudes and performance demonstrated by individuals will be factored into final-cut decisions. Being a member of our fall season color guard does not guarantee membership into our winter guard!

Where do we perform?

Our Winter Guard competes locally in the Antelope Valley and participates in both the West Coast Performance Association (WCPA) and the Winter Guard Association of Southern California (WGASC). Performances take place at various high schools throughout the Antelope Valley, including our own, as well as at schools across Southern California in cities such as Rancho Cucamonga, Downey, Huntington Beach, and beyond!

The winter guard season starts in Early December! More information coming soon!
